Comedy for People Who read or Know Someone Who Does
About Will Durst
Acknowledged by peers and press alike as one of the premier political satirists in the country, Will Durst has patched together a comedy quilt of a career, weaving together columns, books, radio and television commentaries, acting, voice overs and most especially, stand up comedy, into a hilarious patchwork of outraged and outrageous common sense. His abiding motto is “You can’t make stuff up like this." The New York Times calls him "possibly the best political comic in the country." Fox News agrees "he's a great political satirist," while the Oregonian hails him as a “hilarious stand-up journalist.” This former radio talk host, oyster shucker, and margarine smuggler currently writes a nationally syndicated humor column, and his scribblings have appeared in Esquire, George, the San Francisco Chronicle, National Lampoon, The New York Times and scads of other periodicals.

Title of this Week's Durst Case Scenario
.
.
Happy Almost Summer! With Memorial Day in the rear view we can see summer coming, slowly creeping through the fog.
.
We've had some unsettling news. The facility where Will has been living for the past 4 years is closing down and everyone is being evicted. This has thrown both the residents and the staff into a tizzy. We are all upset and surprised and I am now thrown into the morass of finding a new place for Will. I am extremely upset at the Powers That Be at his current facility. I found an article from August of 2023 stating they were planning on selling the building to the City of San Francisco. They knew all that time they were going to close and yet said nothing until last week.
.
Some residents got two letters; one stating they have 60 days to vacate, and another letter sent certified mail stating we have only 30 days to vacate because of the amount of care Will requires. Doesn't seem fair to me--to give less time to the residents who need more assistance in daily life. I have been in contact with the ombudsman for the facility (who wasn't notified by the company and only found out through a regular visit). He is going to see what recourse we have with the City if any.
.
In the meantime, I have begun the search for a new place. It is very frustrating trying to find something within the City limits that can accommodate our budget. Due to Will's ongoing outpatient therapy I am loathe to put him too far away from home; we also have a deal with ParaTransit, which is only good for SF City limits. We have saved a ton on transportation using this service.
.
I am trying to maintain a calm attitude so Will doesn't become agitated or concerned. I am, after all, the daughter of a Marine and I've been able to come this far.
.
And with the progress Will is making regaining the use of his left arm and the fact that he "graduated" to trying to stand at the parallel bars (with his therapist holding on to him) to put weight on his left leg and practice standing (18 minutes last time!) I am confident this will hopefully be the last move we will have to make before bringing him home

It’s a celebration of the maturation of the Boomer Nation and as an extra, added, special treat- the Meaning of Life.
